In conversation during one of my Mastermind group calls, we began talking about our dreams for the rest of the year. Rather than taking a typical goals and visioning approach, one of the group members suggested we play with the statement, “Wouldn’t it be nice to…” to invite deliberate dreaming about anything we desired.
An interesting question to contemplate.
Learning to erase self-limiting tapes
The idea of setting intentions has become common in motivating people to take action and so many people claim success with affirmations and declarations. In truth, setting intention does not guarantee action.
How often have you intended to do something and lacked follow through?
When we make positive statements affirming what we want: more money, more clients, a better job, a great relationship, weight loss…. it’s not unusual for our minds to come up with reasons why our dreams and desires would be difficult or impossible to attain.
We play those “not enough” inner tapes – I’m not smart enough, good enough. I don’t have enough money, or we slip into fearful thinking and focus on worse case scenarios, all or nothing thinking, and anticipated problems.
Instead of expecting the best, we often lean towards anticipating the worst and wonder why we find life to be hard or painful? Self-fulfilling prophecies are very powerful!
I’m reminded of an email I received years ago from www.tut.com. The daily notes are written as a light-hearted personal message from the Universe to each subscriber. It said:
What happens when someone worries? Basically, they think of 100 reasons why something might go wrong. And all of those thoughts then struggle to become things, sometimes overriding their more constructive thoughts. It’s like a train wreck. But that’s the power of worry.
Now, let’s say you want something fantastic to manifest in your life. Have you sat down yet and listed 100 reasons why it might come to you easily, fast, and harmoniously? I think you should. Today works – The Universe
Remembering to enjoy life
Using the statement, “Wouldn’t it be nice to…” eliminates potential objections our minds can create to negate a thought. Deliberate dreaming removes the threat of having to do anything that feels uncomfortable or scary.
It’s easy to get caught up in daily responsibilities, challenges and stressors in our lives. I am often reminded of how serious I become when I forget to lighten up and laugh. There are some days that I can get so caught up with what I feel I have to do that I lose many moments of seeing the beauty and pleasures that enrich my life.
And then something may happen to catch my attention that takes my breath away like a beautiful song, the perfection of nature, or the simple act of loving kindness.
One of my dearest friends works with genocide survivors in Rwanda. Her foundation has helped so many people to heal with forgiveness and reconciliation from the horrors they have endured. She has a huge global vision that is manifesting though her consistent efforts and dreams. She’s had so much success with “Wouldn’t it be nice to” that have become realities: Project LIGHT Rwanda and Create Global Healing.
Wouldn’t it be nice to …? invites you to imagine limitless possibilities without resistance or attachment to the outcome, while letting the Universe know what you want.
My partial list of fifteen dream statements
Wouldn’t it be nice to…
1. Live each day with passion, joy, and vibrant health.
2. Have a surplus of money and abundance flowing continually from multiple income streams.
3. Eat whatever I want without gaining weight.
4. Write a best seller that changes people’s lives.
5. Fall in love with myself.
6. Fully awaken and remember who I am.
7. Have unwavering faith and trust in God as the Source of all my good.
8. See each person embody The Golden Rule.
9. Experience heaven and on earth, united as a one-world community.
10. Emulate the qualities of God – to become God-like.
11. Take two fabulous vacations a year for a month.
12. Be the flow rather than the resistance.
13. Work less, play more.
14. Positively touch the lives of millions of people all over the world.
15. Have a second home for rest and renewal when I need a getaway.

Ready to dream?
Write your “Wouldn’t it be nice to…?” list.
Include what you wish for yourself, others, and the world. Be open to the feelings that come up as you imagine your ideas, dreams, and desires without attachment to them being fulfilled. Invite your heart and spirit to be creative and playful.
Use this exercise to focus joy and delight at the possibility your dreams becoming a reality. Dance with your dreams and allow the Universe to dance with you.
