I really love this post. I'm wondering why I wasn't able to make a comment before. Love does extend beyond family and romantic interests. Love extends even beyond the short duration of life given us on earth.

Thank you for sharing this sad but heart-warming story. It reminds us of the importance of life and how we live it -- what we do while we’re here, the relationships we build and the lives we touch along the way. I agree that love is a major factor in all of these, as well as our ability to accept it from and share it with others.

Losing a loved one has got to be one of the most painful experiences a person has to go through in his life. It’s not an experience I am looking forward to. I pray that Alex’s spirit is at peace and with God, and may his family have the courage and strength to move on.

I couldn't help but cry when I read your post. Very good friends of mine, their sone and his wife just lost their baby to cancer. You can read about him on FB just by typing tyson woody into the search, they have a website too. http://www.thinkingoftyson.com/ , its really heart breaking, or joy fufilled, depending on how you look at it. I will repost this with your permission on FB and my website.

Merry Christmas Alex, Mary Beth and Andrew <3

@ Lorraine: You are so right, there are no accidents in life - only grace and, of course, love.

@ Joie: Mary Beth and I have seen significant growth in Andrew over the past year. We will be ready to let him go in a few months.
