A Simple Path – To Saying the Words

By on Dec 12, 2012

Better three hours too soon than a minute too late. – Shakespeare

In December, the darkness begins to creep over the horizon a little sooner. The earlier nightfall brings a sense of urgency that warns us there’s still more to do; and more to say, before the shadows take over and push the sun deep into the western sky.

The approaching winter solstice is a reminder of life’s most important lesson: Time is fleeting. Make the most of everyday.

We do many things with our fleeting time. We eat, work, love, pray, rest and attempt to do what’s right. When we fall down, time has taught us how to get back up and try again. We also try to say the words others long to hear; and to say the words our souls hunger to hear.

But sometimes pride, fear, or embarrassment get in the way and keep us from saying the words. Remember, darkness is creeping over the western sky a little sooner these days. What are the words you want say?

Say the words today.

Say the words others want to hear.

Don’t be afraid.

Say the words.
Tell your daughter she is loved; tell your son he is amazing.

Say the words.
Tell your partner their love is life’s greatest gift.

Say the words.
Tell the world what you believe. Say it with conviction; speak it with passion.

Say the words.
Tell your sister how she inspires you; tell your brother he is your best friend.

Say the words.
Tell yourself that you are enough – no matter what others say.

Sometimes the simple path to saying the words begins with realizing the sun is setting earlier. Find the courage to say the words before it dips much lower into the western sky.

There are more words left for me to say, too. Words that will heal; words that will offer happiness and words that will show my love. But today I want to say the words that will set my soul free:

I want to find the compassion and depth of faith I felt before my brother died. I want my spirit to live again and see the world as a good, bright place full of promise and hope.

Say the words.

The time is now.

Welcome the change.

Experience the joy.

I am ready.
